SMEs gain more government contracts
Tuesday 06 December 2005

SMEs are beginning to enjoy more successful applications for government contracts according to the Pre Budget Report.

The small firm's share of central government contracts has increased by four per cent on last year's figures. Out of £4.7 million, over £1 million was distributed to SMEs.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) intend to introduce a national opportunities portal to aid SMEs in their search for contracts.

Both departments have also released in conjunction an updated version of the Smaller Supplier - Better Value guide.

John Oughton, chief executive at the OGC, commented: "I am confident that the programme to assist SMEs in bidding for government contracts is delivering."

He added that the OGC's regional training seminars for procurers have been "well received".

The Smaller Supplier - Better Value guide was initially published on June 18th 2002.
