UK business in buoyant mood
Monday 10 October 2005

Research from Lloyds TSB has revealed that September proved to be a month of optimism for UK businesses.

When asked about levels of expectation in September 56 per cent of firms stated that they expected commerce to increase during the next 12 months.

Positive feeling also extended to the economy, as just under half of firms, 48 per cent are more optimistic about the economy then they were three months ago. This figure increased from 43 per cent in August.

The most cheerful sector appeared to be the service industry, where 66 per cent of companies expected business to take an upward turn.

Trevor Williams, chief economist at Lloyds TSB Financial Markets, said: "The improvement in business sentiment shown by the survey, combined with significant cash balances to fund investment spending, means a strengthening in business activity and a likely boost to economic growth within the next few months."
