Recruitment headaches for SMEs are reduced by 16 per cent compared to those of larger scale firms. This trend has been consistent over a lengthy period, as over the past six years an average of 89 per cent of bigger businesses have experienced recruitment difficulties, whereas this figure is 70 per cent for SMEs.
The findings were revealed in the Recruitment Confidence Index (RCI), which was produced by the Cranfield School of Management.
David Molian, co-director of Credo, Cranfield's Centre for Small Business Growth and Development, commented to Management Issues: "It could be that the increasing emphasis on work-life balance is starting to work in the favour of smaller firms.
"Disillusioned corporate managers often find greater scope for their talents and more flexibility through downsizing their employer."
A total of three quarters of all firms anticipate problems with recruitment strategies.
